Morag Murphy

60 seconds with Morag Murphy, Project Co-ordinator

What attracted you to Silver Cloud?

The people, the ethos and the technology. I have a passion for telecoms, having grown up in the industry early in my career. A while ago, redundancy from a telecoms company forced me into the IT sector. During five years in IT I gained a wealth of knowledge, though, which has helped me greatly since I moved back into telecoms.

What are your impressions so far?

Very positive. There is a brilliant energy in the entire workforce, and a genuine desire to provide great customer service.

What is your job title?

Project Co-ordinator.

What does your role involve?

Close and regular communication with new and existing clients, service providers, our procurement team, and our team of installation engineers. Our internal and external stakeholders should be confident that every order is being handled professionally and will be delivered efficiently. If so, I’ve done my job well.

What is the biggest challenge you face?

I love a challenge. In this industry, technology is always advancing.  The challenge is keeping up!

What are you reading at the moment?

To be honest, I don’t read much in my own time. My day job involves a lot of sitting and reading, so when I’m not working I like to be up and about and keeping active. I’ve always maintained that when I get old, and can’t be active, I will read more. I promise!

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?

My grandad. I lost my grandad while I was still at high school. He had previously worked in the Glasgow shipyards. When I was young he was always offering me practical advice, and he was never stuck for a solution to a problem. In my adult years I’ve tried to follow the same approach to life, and I’d love the opportunity to share my experiences with him.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Before Covid I had a fabulous social life, and I loved spending time with family and friends whether that was entertaining at home or eating out. I would also swim, and I did dog agility training every week. During lockdown I’ve found new ways of keeping busy. I’ve always enjoyed walking, so I’ve been doing lots of that, and I’ve recently added running and cycling to the mix. This allows me to justify all the time I spend binge-watching TV.
