Adam Wilson

60 seconds with Adam Wilson, IT / Telecommunications Engineer

What attracted you to Silver Cloud?

I was looking for a field-based job, where I would get plenty of variety rather than just being stuck behind a desk all day, Silver Cloud were offering exactly that. I get to use all my existing IT skills, and build upon them, I never have the same day twice, and I’m out and about meeting new people and working in new locations.

What are your impressions so far?

I’m loving it. Everyone has been very supportive and helpful, and I’ve already learned a ton of new skills.

What does the IT/Telecommunications engineer role involve?

Setting up and fixing customers’ phone systems, routers and Wifi access points. That can be either in person on the customer’s premises, or remotely via the Silver Cloud service desk.

What is the biggest challenge you face?

Not coming from a telecoms background. I had a steep learning curve to get up to scratch on the sector terminology, and the many systems and products that Silver Cloud provide.

What are you reading at the moment?

I listen to a lot of books on audible. At the moment I’m listening to ‘It’ by Stephen King. I’ve seen the film a thousand times, but never read the book.

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?

It would have to be Dave Grohl, the frontman from the Foo Fighters.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I just became a dad eight weeks ago so I don’t have much of it anymore. But I relax by listening to music, listening to an audio book, or watching a movie. If I’m feeling particularly inspired I’ll pick up one of my guitars and try to learn a new song.
